Life can be a gamble and no one knows that more than Victor Grant, a private investigator in depression era San Francisco. Vic listened to her story and on the face of it, the assignment sounded simple, a missing person case, but he knew she was holding something back and lying. That wasn’t something new to him, most of his clients were prone to hiding something and lying.

What intrigued him was the person who referred her to Vic, and old nemesis who Vic had a score to settle with. The simple missing person case would lead to money, the mob and a few murders. But the way Vic looked at it was sometimes you just got to roll the dice and see what comes up. Sometimes you win and sometimes it comes up snake eyes.
