News from Lizard Key Books

April 2026

We spent the winter at our home on Catalina Island and now have returned to our home in Idaho. Catalina was lovely as always. The diving was great. Played a lot of golf and did a lot of fishing. We didn’t have much of a winter in Idaho but over the last week we’ve had lots of rain and additional snow in the mountains. We’re now getting the camper ready for some adventures in the wild.

Over the winter I finished a new book, Ellie Lane. It’s different than most western books because the main character is a woman. In most western stories the main character is a cowboy, a lawman, an outlaw, mountain man, etc. I started doing some research on some of the women who came out west. Everyone always hears about women like Calamity Jane, Annie Oakley, Belle Star or Stagecoach Mary Fields but there are other interesting stories. I looked at old family albums, stories and diaries and found quite a few. Stories of tough, resourceful frontier women.

In my Texas Jack series, Jack McKenna is a combination of many men who left their stories in the western frontier. He’s a fictional character that I’ve tied to stories and legends of real people. This is exactly what I did with Ellie Lane. She’s a fictional character but the story is based on a variety of stories of real women. It’s available in KINDLE and paperback from Amazon books. I hope people find it an enjoyable read.

I have another ‘Victor Grant-Private Investigator’ book out for review and edits currently. It’s a continuation of his adventures as a private investigator during the 1930’s depression era in San Francisco. I’m also a few chapters in on a new Texas Jack western.

Spring is here and summer is close behind. Get out into the world and have some adventures.
